Wright may miss Cocktail Party

Freshman safety Major Wright may miss the game against Georgia if he requires surgery for his broken right thumb. If surgery is not required Wright may be able to play with a cast on the injured hand.

I have to believe that Tony will play Saturday at LSU. All charges have been dropped.

Les Miles worried about Major Wright...

As well he should be.

Doente Thompson to play vs. Auburn

This evening Urban Meyer stated that true freshman WR Doente Thompson will make his first appearance as a Florida Gator Saturday night vs. Auburn.

Auburn to use two QB's vs. Florida

According to an article from the Opelika-Auburn News, Tigers head coach Tommy Tuberville plans to use his two quarterbacks this Saturday night in Gainesville.

"Brandon is our starter, but Kodi [Burns] will see some playing time," Tuberville said.

"We’ll continue to work with him to give us another option in terms of how we attack a defense."

Last week against New Mexico State, the youngster Burns was the starting quarterback, but was quickly pulled in favor of opening day starter and veteran Brandon Cox.

Burns is more of a threat to run with the ball. He was just 1-5 passing against New Mexico State before being yanked. Cox went on to say that in practice Burns is running a different offense:

"What he’s doing is running the ball," Cox said. "That’s not the offense that I run."

Midweek notes on the Gators...

Passing along some info I have gained....

Andre "Bubba" Caldwell is doubtful for this Saturday's home game against Auburn.

Percy Harvin is probable for Auburn.

There is a chance that Kyle Jackson will not start at free safety on Saturday. Rumor has it that Dorian Munroe or Major Wright will snatch the starting job.

The Fantastic Five

1. Florida Gators (4-0) - Undefeated and defending national champions. I have no problem ranking them number one until they are defeated.

2. LSU Tigers (4-0) - The best defense in the nation. Matchup with Florida looms large in less than two weeks.

3. USC Trojans (3-0) - Nebraska gave up 40 points at home to Ball State. Makes me hesitate before I crown the Trojans King Shit of Fuck Mountain.

4. Oklahoma Sooners (4-0) - I don't quite buy the hype...yet. Bob Stoops can coach and his squad is loaded with future NFLers. But I never fully judge the Sooners until after they play Texas.

5. Texas Longhorns (4-0) - There can be only one. Texas is also hard to judge due to a weak early schedule. The real work begins vs. Kansas State this week.

V's SEC Power Poll

Here are my latest power poll rankings:

1. Florida (on top until defeated)
2. LSU (Great defense, suspect offense)
3. Kentucky (Great offense, no defense)
4. Georgia (Great win at Bama)
5. South Carolina (Decent showing at LSU, but where is the Spurrier offense?)
6. Alabama (Dawgs brought them down to earth, Seminoles await)
7. Arkansas (Two tough losses could spell doom for the season)
8. Tennessee (Rebounding from the Florida loss, better than most think)
9. Mississippi State (Playing great defense, but the offense will cost them many wins)
10. Vanderbilt (Fighting for a bowl appearance)
11. Auburn (Terrible offense and not much depth on defense)
12. Ole Miss (Strong showing vs. an uninspired Florida team)

Meyer addresses the press about Auburn

Coach Meyer and Tim Tebow commenting on the game against Auburn this Saturday:

Gainesville, FL

University of Florida head coach Urban Meyer and several players met with the media Monday to discuss their thoughts on the upcoming game against Tennessee:

Head Coach Urban Meyer

Our plan to win was to play great defense and we do not feel that we did play great defense. We held a great rusher to 37 yards; however, we let them throw 300 yards. It was not a great day on defense. In terms of turnovers, we only created one and had zero. So that shows we are taking care of the ball pretty good, we are plus three on the season. Red zone is one of our stronger areas on both offense and defense. We were four of five on Saturday and to date we are 24 out of 26. In terms of our kicking game, we only hit five out of our ten goals but we have zero punt return yards on the season. Time of possession was a big advantage for the Gators. For third downs, we were 53 percent and Ole Miss was only 18 percent. There are some areas that we need to clean up. We had 127-recorded total yards, which is incorrect. We had about 200 yards taken off from penalties in that game. When you start taking off 40-yard punt returns and 20-yard runs being taken back, you will normally lose a Southeastern Conference game. The question of the day is what am I going to do and I guess we could go out to practice and run a bunch of gassers if I had an ignorant team. But we don’t have that, we have a team that wants to win and needs to understand if you lose 200 yards on penalties, you will lose the game. We are going to spend a lot of time on that today because 200 yards is obviously significant. Our coaches and players are disappointed with their level of play, but a strength of our defense is the red zone coverage. The defense has been down there 15 times, which is too much, but have given up four touchdowns, seven field goals, two turnovers and two missed field goals. We count that once you hit the red zone, anything but a touchdown is a victory. Four of 15 we have failed by giving up a touchdown but the other times we have held our own down there. You are 1-1 in the SEC, if you let Ole Miss score touchdowns down there. I do not want to take a way from the way that Ole Miss played. I thought they had an excellent game plan and that program is on the rise. That is a hard team to get prepared for. They play extremely hard. They are well coached as well.

The only champion on defense is Derrick Harvey, who is also the player of the game. On offense, a champion was Eric Rutledge, our fullback, who is playing very well. He graded out at 88 percent. Kestahn Moore graded out at 92 percent and continues to play extremely hard. He got dinged up a little bit during the game and didn’t have a lot of carries in the second half but he is doing exactly what I have told him to do. He averaged 5.2 yards per carry and two catches. He has great hands and we are going to start getting him the ball more and be more involved in the pass game. He was also protecting the quarterback. Carlton Medder played well. We only had three champions to go along with our player of the game, Tim Tebow. He played 90 plays but he actually did not have his best game in many ways but as far as toughness, character and riding that horse, Tim played as good a game as I have seen a quarterback play in certain areas. As far as tenacity and toughness, I knew who we were going to go to win that game.

We have a big time game coming up. It is at 8 p.m. on national television. Our guys are excited about it and cannot wait to get involved in this week of preparation.

Tim Tebow

On Auburn

“Obviously, they are a very good team they’ve been upset a few times this year but that doesn’t take away from the ability and the athletes they have on their team. They are still one of the top teams in the SEC. They are very good and have a great defensive coordinator and they are going to play hard. Everybody is pretty focused on Auburn. It is a huge game and a game we look forward to before the season."

Florida @ LSU: 8:28pm kickoff on CBS

This is hardly news but there isn't much else to post about today. The Gators will travel to Death Valley to take on the #2 Tigers at 8:28 pm, Saturday October 6.

Florida hasn't won at LSU since the 2002 season.

SEC officials suck...

The first half of the Florida - Ole Miss game has shown some of the worst officiating I have ever seen. Not giving Florida a second on the play clock just before halftime is inexcusable.

Postgame comments from Harvin, Tebow and Meyer...

Tebow named National Offensive Player of the Week

The Walter Camp Foundation bestows yet another honor on young Tebow.

V's Power Poll

1. Florida
2. LSU (after Florida and LSU there is a huge drop off in team strength)
3. South Carolina (6 turnovers against South Carolina State?)
4. Alabama (Damn near blew a 21-0 lead, survived with some help from the officials)
5. Arkansas (Can play with most teams in the SEC and beat all but UF or LSU at this point)
6. Kentucky (Nice win against an overrated Big East team with a new coach, lets see how they handle D-Mac)
7. Georgia (Ranked this high by default)
8. Auburn (Can't be as bad as their 1-2 record says)
9. Tennessee (Has lost two tough road games to two very good teams)
10. Vanderbilt (6-6 is a possibility)
11. Miss. State (Defense looks good, still no offense)
12. Ole Miss (Worst team in the SEC, no doubt about it)

Gators stomp Vols, 59-20

Tim Tebow had his coming out party in the SEC accounting for three total scores as the Gators sent the rival Volunteers routing back to Tennessee. Percy Harvin had nearly 200 total yards and a score while Brandon James also returned an early punt for over 80 yards and a touchdown. Tebow ended up nearly doubling the Volunteers total rushing output.

The young Gators defense frustrated the Vols all day, allowing just one touchdown and two field goals. The Volunteers other score came on a Tebow interception returned 90 yards. The most import aspect of the defense yesterday was that they did not give up any big plays. Being young you would expect them to bereak downi n coverage once or twice, at least. But on Saturday they were solid and made Tennessee scrap for everything they got on offense.

Dan Mullen called a creative game on offense. This Florida team is going to be incredibly dangerous this season.

It was Phil Fulmers worst lost as the Volunteers head coach and the Volunteers worst loss since Herchel Walker and the Bulldogs beat the hell out of them in the early 80's.

Jeff Long to be Named AD at Arkansas

Frank Boyles will be out at the end of the season and current Pittsburgh A.D. Jeff Long will take over the position in Arkansas.

This has to be good news for the Razorbacks.

Lee's dad slams FSU's staff

It appears that the father of FSU backup quarterback Xavier Lee is ripping Bobby Bowden's staff for his sons treatment while at FSU.

New York Times interview with Tim Tebow

An interesting Q&A with Tim Tebow!

V's SEC Power Poll

1. Florida (Still tops till they lose)
2. LSU (looking very good)
3. Arkansas (tough test at Bama this weekend)
4. South Carolina (great win between the hedges)
5. Alabama (Can Saban contain D-Mac?)
6. Tennessee (Tough test at the Swamp)
7. Kentucky (Will find out about their D against Louisville)
8. Auburn (tough home loss to a good South Florida team)
9. Georgia (No TD's in home loss to SoCar?)
10. Vanderbilt (looks like another long season)
11. Miss. State (I like their defense to give them a chance to win some games)
12. Ole Miss (Their lack of defense gives them the cellar)

Mike Bianchi is a douche bag

Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel has predicted that Tim Tebow will win multiple Heisman trophies before his career at the University of Florida is over.

This guy will go down as one of the greatest quarterbacks in college football history. He's got the talent, he's got the team, he's got the arm, he's got the legs, he's got the courage, he's got the coach. He's got it all.
Well, no duh! Most Gator fans knew this after Tebow first ripped past the Kentucky defense on national TV. We knew it when he bowled over Tennessee defender to clinch his first truly legendary moment. We knew he could throw the ball when passed for a couple TD's against LSU. Welcome to the bandwagon, douche bag!

Yes, Leak was the starting quarterback when the Gators won the national title last year, but if Tebow had started they might have been even better. If Tebow had started, the Gators probably wouldn't have lost to Auburn and would have finished unbeaten and avoided the end-of-the-season poll controversy that allowed them to play for the championship.

Leak was a good college quarterback with no chance of playing in the NFL. Tebow will be a great college quarterback who will someday be a first-round NFL draft pick.

Look at how much a few months can change someone. Instead of completely overlooking Chris Leak, in a January 9th column Bianchi said:

Talk about validation and vindication, maybe now quarterback Chris Leak finally will get the credit he is due as one of the greatest quarterbacks in Florida and Southeastern Conference history.

So which is it, Mikey? Is Leak just a good college quarterback or was he one of the greatest quarterbacks the SEC has ever seen?

I've got as much of a Tebowner as anyone, but Tebow probably didn't have the composure and knowledge to negotiate that schedule. Let's also not underestimate the vast amount of information he gained from working with Chris Leak. Tebow is as good as he is due to Chris Leak's influence and not in spite of it.

Gator Boys to get their rings...

The back to back national champion Florida Gators basketball team will be at the Swamp Saturday to receive their latest national championship rings. All will be there except for Lee Humphrey who is currently playing in Europe.

Injury concerns for Gators ahead of Vols visit.

A number of players suffered injuries in Saturday's victory over Troy. Most notably Andre Caldwell, who has been ruled out for the Tennessee game.

Brandon James saw his first action of the season after being suspended for the opener. He was also injured but he is expected to play on Saturday.

Tim Tebow SEC's offensive player of the week.

The SEC has named Tim Tebow it's offensive player of the week.

SEC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
TIM TEBOW
Quarterback
FLORIDA
6-2 • 235 • Sophomore
Jacksonville, Fla. (Nease HS)

Tebow completed 18-of-25 passes for 236 yards and three touchdowns and also led Florida in rushing with 93 yards on 17 carries and two touchdows in the Gators' 59-31 win against Troy.
The Gators scored touchdowns on its first seven offensive drives against the Trojans.
Tebow has a current streak of 69 passing attempts without an interception.
Tebow is second in the nation in passing efficiency and leads the SEC in total offense this season.

Troy @ Florida

I took in the Florida - Troy game at Buffalo Wild Wings in Baymeadows with my friend Justin and his girlfriend Heidi.

Justin is a big Noles, but he's a good guy and doesn't deserve to have that held against him.
Needless to say his game did not go as well as mine. The Seminoles struggled early, falling behind 17-3 in the first half. Justin wasn't amused.

The Gators, on the other hand, scored on every possesion of the first half and lead 42-7 at the break. Three beers and three jagerbombs assured me that the second half would be a blur, which it pretty much was.

About all I remember with clarity is seeing Tebow in the game when we had scored fifty points. This was late in the 4th quarter. I'm sure Urban had a good reason, I was too hung over to sit through the Urban Meyer Show, but I TiVo'd it and will catch it later.

The only other memory I have of the night was the Ole Ball Sack pulling off the upset and getting his second win Between the Hedges. As much as I love to give the man shit, it was great to watch him take it to the pups again.

Gator cheerleaders...

I have no idea how old this photo is, but I love it. :)

"Technique, technique, technique,"

An almost agonizingly long article by one of my favorite college football writers, Pat Forde, of ESPN on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers experience at Florida Field last weekend.

Make sure you watch the video of WKU head coach David Elson as he smashes a Gators helmet in the locker room before the game. It's funny, and goes to show theatrics have little to do with winning football games (ask Chief Osceola about that).

Trojans of Troy ready for the Gators

The Troy Trojans like their chances heading into the Swamp tomorrow night. Florida hasn't lost at home to an unranked team for what seems like ages. I literally cannot think of the last time it's happened. Bu the scary thing is, it has to happen sometime. Given a long enough time span everything becomes possible.

Troy is to run their nickel package, which they couldn't run against Arkansas since it is geared for a spread offense. Supposedly they will be more prepared and don't plan to give up 500 yards of total offense this weekend.

I expect the Gators to do well against Troy. Our defense should shut them down and the offense will wear them out.

V's SEC Power Poll

I am not a homer. Usually. I ranked Florida first in the power poll because they are the defending champions of the SEC.

1. Florida (Stays here till defeated on the field. Very convenient for me.)
2. LSU (Hype gets them here, I'm not convinced they are as good as advertised.)
3. Georgia (Could be anywhere from 1st to 7th, I just don't know.)
4. Auburn (Will prove to be better than they showed most of the game against KSU.)
5. Arkansas (With the best player in the nation, Arkansas will be tough to beat most weeks.)
6. Alabama (Fuck Saban!)
7. Tennessee (Defense was exposed against Cal.)
8. Kentucky (Just don't have the defense to compete with the SEC Elite on a weekly basis.)
9. South Carolina (The Ole Ball Sack is going to continue to settle for mediocrity. He won't like it, but he better learn to accept it. Still dangerous to pull the occasional upset, though.)
10. Vanderbilt (Could end the season as high as 7th, which would lock them into a bowl for the first time in a long time.)
11. Ole Miss (Nice near choke at Memphis.)
12. Miss. State (When you consistently lag behind Vanderbilt for the basement position, something has gone terribly wrong. Croom needs to go. In fact, MSU needs to go. I propose we lead a campaign to oust MSU from the SEC and add Appalachian State as soon as possible.)

Booties-4-Booty

Thanks to EDSBS for tipping me off to this, Booties-4-Booty. The best Heisman campaign idea ever. I like the idea. Lets keep Titties-4-Tebow in mind for 08. Maybe someone can come up with something that rhymes with Percy?

Derrick Harvey: Quiet Giant

Good article from the Florida Times-Union on eventual first round pick Derrick Harvey.

Oooops! Georgia disgraces itself and the SEC.

Our moronic neighbors to the North dropped the ball while receiving the family of recruit Michael Bowman. You see, Michael's older brother Adarius plays for Oklahoma State. So when the family made the visit to Athens to attend the game, they wore their orange Oklahoma State colors.

"We were getting all kind of looks up and down when we first walked into the recruiting room," Tara Bowman said Tuesday. "One (staff member), she was really, really mean."

Sadly, just getting some mean Georgia Bitchdog wasn't all the Bowman's had to endure.

"Another lady came up to our table and said, 'Y'all can't come in here with the opponents' attire on,' " Bowman said. "I said, 'Well, you need to talk to your coaches about that because they were the ones who invited my son for a visit and they knew my other son played for the other team. Why would I come to support Georgia when you're just recruiting?'

"It was really frustrating, and it made me real mad. I just wanted to come down and support both of my sons."

But that's not all, they decided to give the Bowmans new tickets to sit in a different part of the shithole, I mean stadium:

"After she gave us the tickets, she tore off the top of the tickets and sent us around to Gate 7 (from Gate 1)," Tara Bowman said. "By the time we got around to Gate 7, they wouldn't let us in because the top of the tickets were gone."

Typical. The Bowmans were finally able to get into the sesspool, I mean stadium, just before kickoff. But they had to sit in a section of all Georgia fans and were the victims of some verbal attacks.

"It's Michael's choice whether he wants to go to Georgia or not, but he won't get any encouragement from me at all,"

Let the truth be known that Georgia sucks.

The State writer Joe Person predicts Cocks screw Dawgs

In his blog on The State predicted a victory over the rival Georgia Bulldogs this coming Saturday. Granted, Joe made this prediction before Carolina's somewhat rough 28-14 win in the home opener against perennial underachiever Louisiana-Lafayette.

Mark my words. South Carolina will be destroyed this weekend in Athens. It will not be pretty.

Tebow makes a Heisman list...

According to Gene Menez of Sports Illustrated, Tim Tebow is #10 in the Heisman race. I consider the list dubious due to the low ranking of Darren McFadden, who is the best player in the nation.

Florida 49, Western Kentucky 3

Despite all the cheap shots, Tim Tebow was able to completely dominate the Hilltoppers, throwing for three touchdowns and running for another. He now has 17 total TD's in his young career.

Percy Harvin only touched the ball six times, but was as electric as ever, scoring once. Bubba Caldwell looked good and sophomore Riley Cooper topped 100 yards and scored on two TD passes from Tebow.

The defense looked good, I don't think their inexperience will be as much a problem as I initially thought it would. But we will find that out for sure when Tennessee comes to the Swamp in a couple weeks.

True freshman backup QB Cam Newton saw some action in mop up duties late in the game and threw and nice pass then ran for a Tebowesque touchdown, capping the scoring. The game was ended early due to lightening.

Chris Rainey, another freshman looked explosive returning punts, even running out of his shoes in the process.

We Are All Witnesses....

I don't know who made this, but I like it!

A look back...

The national championship game drove me from posting in this blog last December. I was nervous. I knew the Gators would be in this game, but I wasn't certain they would end up winning.

I must confess that the BCS National Championship game was the most enjoyable game of football life. I'll never forget it. Big thanks to Urban Meyer, Chris Leak and the rest of the Gator nation for making this happen.

To that team I post a link to an excellent article written by Pat Forde after the game.
